A Future That Works (AFW)

AFW Collaborators

is a 4-year workforce development project implemented by Philippine Business for Education and supported by the Australian Government.

The AFW program seeks to address job-skills mismatch by forging greater industry participation in skills development, through the establishment of Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) which serve as the industry’s voice and promote industry reports including labor market information (LMI) and career roadmaps to inform education and training systems.

Modeled after the Australian Government's Jobs and Skills Councils, AFW established the Analytics and AI SSC as one of five key industries in the Philippines. By facilitating collaboration between industry, government, and education providers, the SSC fosters a shared understanding of the evolving skills needed in AAI.

In December 2020, the Analytics Association of the Philippines (AAP) representing the Analytics and AI (AAI) sector was one of the sectors selected to pilot the project. AAP has undertaken the establishment of the Analytics and AI Sector Skills Council (AAI SSC) to provide industry guidance on skills and workforce demand through Labor Market studies, industry road mapping, among others.

The Labor Market Intelligence (LMI) report of Analytics launched in February 2022 articulates skills requirements and career roadmap in the sector. It provided vital data on industry trends and workforce requirements that were incorporated into the Philippine Skills Framework for AAI, a collaboration between the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Analytics and Artificial Intelligence Association of the Philippines (AAP), which seeks to empower individuals to navigate career paths and address the specific skills gap in the Philippine AAI industry.

Sector Skills PH is an initiative of the AFW project which serves as the official platform for information and guidance coming from the SSCs. The website houses the AAI SSC outputs such as  LMI report, career roadmap, and the latest news and trends of the sectors that can guide Filipinos in their career development, upskilling, and further education.

A Future that Works (AFW), a program supported by the Australian Government in partnership with Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) and Analytics Association of the Philippines (AAP), launches the 2022 Philippines Analytics Sector Labor Market Intelligence (LMI) Report.

The Analytics and AI SSC 2022 Labor Market Intelligence Report found similar skills to be the most essential and cross-cutting among all analytics jobs.

Successful initiatives on private sector involvement in skills development were also highlighted, such as pilot tests on growth mindset in Senior High school, increasingtheir employability, and the impact of technology-integrated work-based training, resulting in 70% job placement rates, a proof that industry-led skills development as done by the work of AAI SSC, is vital for a thriving Filipino workforce.
